I have one tip for you all, and if you only take one thing away from my blog, please let this be it.

 

Do not do a pub crawl the day before a half marathon.

 

Now, I know I got a PB on this race, but I have never felt so bad on a run. Around mile ten I genuinely thought I was going to pass out. I had painkillers before I started, I drank a LOT of water, and sugar was my friend. I will not be making this mistake again. I had planned to have a few drinks before the Welwyn Half Marathon in two weeks time, I most definitely will not be drinking now.

So, onto the good news from this race. I got a PB! By quite a long way too.

Half Marathon PBThat’s seven whole minutes off my last Half Marathon time. I don’t want to get ahead of myself, but I’d love to get a half marathon time of under 2.5 hours by the end of the year. I would need to maintain a pace of 07:07/km. This sounds doable. Although only the first 3km of this race would fall under that pace.

My partner also came along to this race to do the 5k run. He hasn’t done any training for over a year, and still managed to do it in 26 minutes. He is so much faster than me. Luckily he is concentrating on his 5k pace for the next few months, so I don’t have to worry about competing with him just yet. I have time to get much much faster!

Looking forward to my next half, super flat, and I’m not going to drink. Hoping for an even better time.
